Jan. 25th, 2019, event schedule was released.
Jan. 29th, 2019, winter camp is now OPEN!
After half year's preparation, the first GTIIT winter camp for high school students has finally been open! Please follow my steps and see what is happening here today.
More and more students got here. How young and passionate they are!
To make participants get used to the campus life, GTIIT volunteers serve as their peer mentors, who will also bring them the original style of GTIIT life. Thank them all!
At 10 am, opening ceremony started. Mr. Yigal Cohen, Pro Vice Chancellor and Director General of GTIIT hosted this opening ceremony. Firstly, he introduced all leaders and guests present today, they are: Prof. Lin Danming, Pro Vice Chancellor of GTIIT, Prof. Ori Lahav, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and the four academic staff that will give talks. They are Associate Prof. Antti Ressila, Assistant Prof. Xu Xinpeng, Dr. James Stuart Wright, Dr. Constance Van Horne. Today we also have Sr Agnes Law, the school supervisor of Sacred Heart Canossian College of Hong Kong and the Principal of Shantou Dongxia High School Ms. Lin Yuanmei.
Yigal introduced that GTIIT started to recruit students from 2017 but this is the first time to host a winter camp. We are pleased that this event caught a lot of attention in the community when it was published, and we've received very impressive applications since then. He expressed gratitude and warm welcome to the 45 campers from 15 high schools of 8 cities. And he announced the opening of GTIIT Winter Camp 2019.
Prof. Ori Lahav, Dean of Undergraduate studies, delivered a welcome speech. He mentioned that GTIIT ultimate goal is to cultivate engineers and scientists with global vision and innovative skills. With this vision in mind, we are recruiting the best academic staff from all over the world and accept the best students who are showing strong interest in science and engineering. In his opinion, Learning at the high university level is not easy. Both talents and passion are needed to succeed. He's proud that GTIIT academic team and students share the same interest, which is to make a contribution to mankind the world alike. For high school students, he encouraged them:
Prof. Lin Danming then gave a presentation about GTIIT and admissions information. He said that:
l GTIIT has been listed in the "Guangdong High Level University Development Program" after several rounds of strict selection by academic committees. GTIIT is the youngest one among 18 universities which are listed in the Program. Four disciplines, including Materials Science and Engineering, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering are listed as key disciplines.
l Guangdong Laboratory of Chemistry and Fine Chemical Engineering was inaugurated in Shantou and GTIIT deeply participated in the construction of this provincial lab.
The opening ceremony ended successfully!
