On the afternoon of October 12, Prof. Cao Jianlin, former Vice Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology, and Chairman and Director of Ji Hua Laboratory and his delegation visited Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) to learn about its talent cultivation, scientific research and other developments.
Dr. Queena Yi, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT; Xu Peng, Dean of Research of GTIIT and Professor of Chemical Engineering; and Ms. Lin Xiaona, Secretary of Party Leadership Group and Director of the Shantou Science and Technology Bureau, accompanied them on the visit.
Dr. Queena Yi extended a warm welcome to Prof. Cao and his delegation. In front of the exhibition boards at the Administration Building on the North Campus, she gave a comprehensive introduction to GTIIT's history, campus development, student education and research achievements. As a pioneer in China's strategy for high-level opening-up in education, GTIIT has brought together high-caliber talent from home and abroad and cultivated outstanding graduates with strong self-motivation, empowering socio-economic development through science and innovation.
Prof. Cao listened attentively and spoke highly of GTIIT's achievements. He noted that, grounded in the distinctive model of Chinese-foreign cooperative education, GTIIT integrates advanced educational philosophies and focuses on cultivating STEM talent and driving cutting-edge technological innovation, and has made encouraging progress in scientific research. He expressed hope that Ji Hua Laboratory and GTIIT would work together to explore collaborative pathways in frontier research and the commercialization of scientific achievements, thereby boosting the development of the technology and innovation industries.
The delegation then visited the Electrically-Assisted Physical Metallurgy Lab and engaged in in-depth discussions with Prof. Qi Yuanshen, Associate Profesor in the Materials Science and Engineering Progrom and the head of the leb about his research progress.

Prof. Cao shares a long-standing bond with GTIIT and has been an important witness to its growth. As early as 2015, he traveled to Shantou to attend the launch ceremony of GTIIT, witnessing the official beginning of this Sino-foreign cooperative university focused on STEM. In 2021, he attended GTIIT's opening ceremony online and delivered a keynote lecture. He encouraged young students to set ambitious goals and embrace the mission of driving scientific and technological innovation in the new era. Returning to campus in person after all these years, he expressed great delight at GTIIT's vigorous growth.
