The Feishu Math Symposium 2026 was recently held in Shanghai. Professor Eli Aljadeff, Vice Chancellor and Head of the Mathematics with Computer Science Program at the Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT), and Michael Lv, Director of GTIIT-GTEC, attended the symposium. They gathered with top global scholars and industry representatives to discuss frontier mathematical research and interdisciplinary applications, paving the way for international academic exchanges and closer industry-university-research cooperation.

The symposium brought together numerous eminent scholars. Three world-famous Fields Medalists, Efim Zelmanov, Ngô B?o Châu and Alessio Figalli, were present at the event. Together with leading researchers from University of Toronto, University of Hong Kong, University of Science and Technology of China and other institutions, they exchanged the latest research advances and discussed key scientific issues in related fields, creating an exceptional academic environment.

At the roundtable session themed “The Future of Mathematics”, Professor Eli Aljadeff joined the three Fields Medalists and other scientists for an in-depth discussion. Topics covered how artificial intelligence may influence mathematical discovery, mathematical research paradigms and mathematics education, and the evolving working patterns of mathematicians. Participants jointly explored new methods, new boundaries and new challenges for mathematical research amid the rapid development of AI.

From an educational perspective, Professor Eli Aljadeff said GTIIT is actively exploring the balance between AI and teaching. Based on the university’s teaching practices, he shared dialectical views on applying AI in undergraduate mathematics teaching. He suggested that we should restrict undergraduates to use AI in homework, as such reliance would hinder knowledge internalization and make it difficult for most students to pass examinations.
After the symposium, GTIIT delegates held a discussion with the Fields Institute for Research in the Mathematical Sciences in Shanghai, China, the event organizer. Both sides noted that the two institutions feature distinct international characteristics and a research-oriented focus. Rooted in China, both strive to address global frontier scientific challenges. They agreed to further cooperate in faculty exchanges, joint training and joint research to advance the high-quality development of pure and applied mathematics.
The symposium strengthened GTIIT’s ties with research institutions, young scholars and key enterprises worldwide and showcased GTIIT’s rigorous mathematics-driven STEM strengths, fostering open innovation alongside frontier exploration in basic disciplines.
