In March 13rd-17th, Professor Noam Soker of Technion – Israel Institute of Technology visited Chaonan Experimental School, Foshan Nanhai High School, Guangzhou No. 2 High School, and gave scientific lectures to Grade 11 students on the topic of "The source of elements in the universe".

Prof. Noam Soker mentioned that 2019 is the year when the periodic table celebrates its 150th birthday. Its creation is one of the most significant achievements in science, capturing the attention of many researchers, including Prof. Noam Soker himself. The periodic table greatly stimulated his interest in scientific research and led him to a career in this field, also his marriage with his wife.
In the lecture, Noam classified the elements according to the different ways they were formed. He mentioned that the lightest elements (hydrogen, helium, lithium) were produced in the Big Bang, while heavier elements like carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, etc. were produced in burning stars. Concepts on Big Bang, supernova explosion, nebula, astronomical observation methods and so on were also brought up to the audience.

The talk has drawn the audience in and many interesting questions were raised. Some students would like to know if all the elements in the universe have already been included in the periodic table while some are curious about the mysterious Black Hole. Prof. Noam Soaker provided informative and comprehensive answers to the questions. He also sent out an invitation to a girl from Nanhai High School, hoping that the student could work with him on astrophysics in the future. Prof. Noam Soaker pointed out that students from Chaonan Experimental School have a strong desire for knowledge while students from Foshan Nanhai High School are critical thinkers and that they asked questions from very unique perspectives. He was also impressed by the visions on astrophysics the students from Guangzhou No. 2 High School have.
Scienceand technology are magic wands. GTIIT looks forward to introducing more cutting-edge scientific discoveries to students by having scientists giving science lectures in high schools and bringing inspirations in learning science and technology. We encourage students to change the world with technology, and to serve the society with innovation.
