Position Description      

The Network Engineer will provide timely and cost-effective technical support to end-users. The engineer will maintain the campus network using their functional and technical expertise, ensuring optimum connection performance.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate planning the campus network necessary to provide the network services to suit new buildings, natural expansion, upgrades and changes to the core network infrastructure of the University.

• Produce outline network designs and specifications, and overall architectures, topologies, configuration and design documentation of networks and networking technology within the University; assess associated risks, and specify recovery routines and contingency procedures.

• Ensure that any change to the campus network is carried out by following the change management procedures.

• Install, remove or supervise campus network hardware using supplied instructions and tools, such as firewalls, routers, switches, wireless controllers, access points, VoIP devices, CCTV, UPS, and initiate action to ensure best use is made of available network assets.

• Evaluate and explain complex problems or situations and make sound decisions to maintain high availability for business applications and technology services.

• Communicate with stakeholders, including peers in Technion and STU, to ensure the right network resources are available for end-users.

• Correct network incidents and problems in a quick manner, calling on other experienced colleagues and external resources if required.

• Adhere to escalation process by collecting the required information and make sure incident is properly updated in the ITSM system before the ticket is escalated.

• Secure network systems by establishing and enforcing policies and monitoring access.

• Support in cybersecurity to compliance with local laws and regulations, and ensures the effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls and intrusion detection systems.

• Follow IT support workflows to deliver network technical support to the university members and associates, including university events in particular.

 

Required Job Specifications 

Required qualification/academic degree:  Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a related field.

At least 3 years of hands-on experience managing and configuring campus-wide network infrastructure.

Required experience: Prior experience supporting IT systems, preferably in an international educational organization.

Required Job Competencies       

Strong knowledge of network protocols and standards, including switching/routing, OSPF, STP, IPSec, and VoIP.

Relevant vendor certifications such as CCIE, ARUBA, HP/H3C, or equivalent training.

Excellent troubleshooting skills with great attention to detail.

Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is necessary for effective communication.

Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with tact and discretion.
