Teaching Assistant (Physical Education)
Job Summary:
The Teaching Assistant (TA) supports the work of teachers and the school both inside and outside the classroom with tasks and responsibilities that promote student learning (academic, social-emotional, and physical or behavioral) as well as school functions. The TA is primarily hired to support students, with clerical and other school-related tasks being a secondary responsibility. The TA (Physical Education) at GTAIS is also responsible for planning and implementing physical education activities, monitoring students, and evaluating their outcomes besides the standard TA responsibilities. Physical Education emphasizes sports-related skills, movement patterns, games, and fitness activities. The TA (PE) must have the flexibility to work with students ranging from 3 years old to Grade 9, records and maintains student information and participates in all required in-service training programs.
Job Description:
· Assist teachers in planning and preparing lessons, projects, and activities.
· Assist teachers with facilitating classroom activities, including small group instruction, station work, and cooperative learning experiences.
· Collaborate with teachers while proactively engaging in the TA role.
· Set up the equipment before class.
· Create a supportive atmosphere that fosters students' age-appropriate intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
· Prepare and implement lesson plans that offer suitable learning experiences for every student.
· Demonstrate the skills being taught and assist students in performing and refining those skills.
· Instruct on safety rules relevant to each activity.
· Teach teamwork and what it means to be part of a team.
· Plan and lead lunchtime games, after-school classes and holiday camps.
· Monitor and assist students on playgrounds, lunches, and other assigned duty times.
· Assist before, during, and after school functions.
· Engage in curriculum development for physical education.
· Work with the Purchasing Department to supply and resupply equipment.
· Prepare interim progress reports and quarterly report cards.
· Communicate and engage with students, parents, staff, and the community. Maintain confidentiality and school fidelity in all communication with other employees, parents, and outside persons; refer sensitive communications to teacher or school administration.
· Perform any other duties assigned by the Director.
Minimum Requirements / Knowledge
6 months- year's work experience as a PE Teacher or equivalent such as an internship.
Minimum Education Requirements / Certification
Bachelor’s degree in physical education or equivalent.
