2025/12/4

Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology Job Post

Senior Software Development Team Leader

The Academic Technologies Development office in GTTIT creates, maintains, and supports custom software that helps improve the academic experience at the university. The main project is the Student Life-cycle Management System, which handles all the university’s core academic processes and supports students, faculty, administrators, and management.

GTIITS is looking for a Senior Software Development Team Leader to lead the software engineering work and guide the ongoing development of the university’s main academic systems. This role combines technical expertise with leadership, managing both new projects and updates to existing systems, and working closely with our parent university.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who can manage a small team, set long-term technical goals, and work with different departments in an international environment. While this is a leadership position, it is not just about managing people or projects— the candidate will actively take part in all stages of software development. This means talking with stakeholders to gather requirements, designing solutions, and actually writing code, sometimes alongside or guiding less experienced developers. The candidate should be comfortable coding and leading others at the same time.

Key Responsibilities

Team & Project Leadership:

·         Lead and mentor a small team of software engineers, making sure the solutions support the university’s goals.

·         Help plan for the needs of a fast-growing university and create clear development roadmaps that match the goals of management, departments, and faculty.

·         Organize, prioritize, and oversee several projects to ensure they are completed on time and meet their goals.

·         Set and maintain technical standards, coding practices, and development workflows.

·         Conduct performance reviews and find opportunities for the team’s growth and training.

Technical Work:

·         Design systems that are reliable and can grow, and make sure they work well with other academic and administrative platforms.

·         Take an active role in developing the university’s main systems, especially the backend parts.

·         Review and improve complex code to ensure it is easy to maintain and performs well.

·         Make sure systems are reliable, secure, and follow necessary rules and standards.

·         Manage pipelines for testing and deployment and keep those processes running smoothly.

·         Balance long-term technical planning with hands-on coding and technical work as needed.

Working With Others:

·         Work with university management, IT, academic departments, administrative offices, and Israel Technion to set project priorities.

·         Turn university needs into technical requirements and clear plans for development.

·         Represent the office at technology meetings, presentations, and committees.

Qualifications and Skills

·         Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

·         7+ years of software development experience, ideally including at least 3 years in a technical leadership or team management role.

·         Excellent English communication skills and ability to work in multicultural teams.

·         Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, security, agile methods, design patterns, and development pipelines.

·         Proficiency in C# dotnet and related frameworks. Knowledge of other web technologies like Python JavaScript, TypeScript and frameworks such as Django, React, or Vue is a plus.

·         Experience working with RESTful APIs, databases, and backend technologies.

·         Take part in technical design reviews, code reviews, and support team learning.

·         Ability to ensure code quality, reliability, and compliance with industry standards and data protection rules.

·         Focus on system security and ongoing technical support, including bug fixes for current software modules.

·         Familiarity with Elasticsearch, log management, metrics, and performance tuning.

Preferred

·         Experience working in higher education domain.

·         Experience working in agile teams and managing complex systems with multiple parts.

·         Exposure to AI tools, with an understanding that this is an important part of the future for university software systems.

·         Knowledge of information security and data protection standards in academic settings.
