Lab Manager / Senior Lab Technician Position in Environmental Engineering Lab

The Environmental Engineering Program is looking for one Lab Manager / Senior Lab Technician to look after the operation of the Lab for advanced materials, and water science and technology.

Contract duration: 

Initially for one year and renewable (with a one-month probation period)

Duties and Responsibilities:

Research lab duties:

· Conduct or assist in conducting experiments in the areas of adsorption, membrane, AOP and water quality in the lab.

· Setup, organize, maintain, and troubleshoot lab equipment; order needed equipment, materials and consumables; organize and ensure all bookkeeping and accounting for the lab is correct.

· Oversee the general operation and safety of the labs; teach undergraduate and visiting students attaching to the research lab.

· Assist the PI on literature review of research papers/reports.

· Ensure proper lab protocols and standard operation procedures (SOPs) are established and enforced and proper use of chemicals and equipment.

· Ensure that proper procedures are followed for disposal of chemical and microbiological wastes. Test and maintains safety equipment on a regular basis, oversee the maintenance of Materials Safety Data Sheets’ (MSDS) record and SOPs. Ensures that all safety procedures are consistently met.

Selection Criteria:

· Education: Master or PhD degree from a reputable university in material science, environmental science and engineering, chemical engineering and biological science;

· Experience: working experience in lab work and technical writing.

· Skill: The applicant should be familiar with the lab devices commonly used in the areas of material science, environmental science and engineering, chemical engineering or biological science. In particular, he/she should know how to use ICP-MS, GC-MS, FTIR, AFM, SEM-EDX and XPS. He/she can work independently without much supervision.

· Abilities: Able to operate and troubleshoot lab equipment and instruments and have the ability to learn new techniques. Ability of writing good scientific papers/reports in both Chinese and English.

· Personal: Warm-hearted, dedicated, committed and mature; a pleasant personality with a positive and friendly attitude in the midst of a very busy and challenging university atmosphere.

Training: 

Travel is limited in China.
