Dr. Satheeshkumar Elumalai obtained his PhD from National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan in 2014 with Professor Jyisy Yang. Before joining GTIIT, as Senior Teaching Fellow/Lab Manager in Chemistry Program at Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) from December 2022. Dr. Elumalai has been worked with various research groups (2014-2022) across different countries, includes Prof. Hugh J. Byrne (FOCAS Research Institute, TUD, Ireland), Dr. Anna Chiara De Luca (National Research Council CNR-IBBC, Napoli, Italy), Prof. Makoto Ogawa (VISTEC, Thailand), Prof. Masahiro Yoshimura (PCGMR, National Cheng Kung University), Prof. C.N.R. Rao (JNCASR, India), Prof. Yury Gogotsi (as Co-PI at Drexel University, USA), Prof. John R. Lombardi (City College of New York, USA), and Prof. Shinsuke Shigeto (NCTU). He has been worked as a temporary Faculty (contract) in the department of chemistry at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NITT, India). Besides academic, he has been worked at TVS Motor Company (Mysore, India) as Environmental Process Chemist for 2 years and analysing the physicochemical characterization of drinking water (RO), demineralization water (DM plant), wastewater analysis, and stack & ambient air pollution monitoring based on American Public Health Association (APHA) protocol.

His field of expertise in the Submerged Liquid-Plasma Exfoliation (SLPE) of 2D materials. Solution-processing synthesizing of plasmonic nanomaterials and 2D materials such as graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides TMDs, 2D metal carbides and nitrides (MXenes), inorganic layered materials and their application in environmental remediation as well as development of optical sensors based on surface-enhanced vibrational spectroscopy (SEIRA and SERS) for the biologically active compounds. Raman microspectroscopy analysis of breast cancer cells/tissues biochemical discrimination using SERS. Recently, he has proposed the “Surface enhanced mechanism” based on MXenes-Ti3C2Tx, such as MXenes-enhanced Raman scattering (MERS) and MXenes-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (MERRS).

He was awarded various scholarships and fellowships, including UGC's Earn While You Learn Scheme Scholarship during M.Sc. at University of Madras under the supervision of Prof. S. Rajeswari, International PhD scholarship (for 5 years) at National Chung Hsing University, under supervision of Prof. Jyisy Yang, and Sheikh Saqr Fellowship at International Center for Materials Science (ICMS), Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR, India) under the supervision of Prof. C.N.R. Rao and Prof. Masahiro Yoshimura.
