Efrat Barak is a visiting lecturer at the department of Biotechnology and Food Engineering at GTIIT.
Dr. Barak received her Ph. D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in 2002 then she moved to the United State where she did her post-doctoral studies on stem cell research at the FDA - The Division of Cellular and Gene Therapies in the Center for Biologics Evaluations and Research, U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Her research was conducted at the NIH – national Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
On her return to Israel, Dr. Barak joined the Stem Cell Center in the Technion, where she served as a Senior Scientist and in collaboration with the Franch - National Institute for Health and Medical Research (INSERM), where she developed methods on differentiation and growing of human embryonic stem cells and of induced pluripotent stem cells. Dr. Barak holds few patents in the field of stem cells technology. Dr. Barak was awarded The Chateaubriand award and Lady Davis Trust award.
Since 2009, Dr. Barak enthusiastically serves as a lecturer at the Technion as well as in in other academic college in Israel. Dr. Barak encourages her student to critically think and foster understanding, to provide the foundations for conducting independent inquiry.
Dr. Barak for the past ten years, serves as the Head of the Flow Cytometry Unit at the Technion. Working closely with researchers and students, she designs and conducts meaningful experiments using this state-of-the-art technology.
