Xuezhong He, Full Professor, Ph.D. Supervisor, and Deputy Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT). He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 2011.
His research focuses on advanced membrane materials and membrane separation processes, with particular emphasis on gas separation, CO2 capture, hydrogen purification, natural gas upgrading, and low-carbon separation technologies. His research integrates materials design, membrane fabrication, molecular simulation, process simulation, techno-economic analysis, and process integration, aiming to bridge fundamental membrane science with practical industrial applications.
He has been supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China Foreign Excellent Young Scientists Fund and the High-End Foreign Experts Program, and has been listed among the World's Top 2% Scientists for multiple consecutive years.
He has published more than 100 SCI-indexed papers in international journals, including Science Advances, Nature Communications, and Journal of Membrane Science, with more than 7000 citations and an H-index of 45. He is also the author of an English-language academic monograph and has contributed chapters to international books and delivered more than 40 oral, invited, and keynote presentations at international conferences and academic forums. He currently serves on the editorial boards of international journals including Separation and Purification Technology and Carbon Capture Science & Technology.
He has led or participated in more than 10 research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation, Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission, Research Council of Norway, and the European Union FP6 program. His research has also involved close collaboration with industry and international organizations, including Equinor, NORCEM, Air Products, and CIMC Offshore, focusing on gas separation, carbon capture, membrane materials, and low-carbon process technologies.
Research Interests
1. Advanced Membrane Materials
Development of high-performance membranes for challenging gas separations, including polymeric membranes, mixed-matrix membranes, facilitated transport membranes, porous organic materials, and carbon molecular sieve membranes.
2. Gas Separation & Purification
Membrane-based separation and purification of CO2, H2, CH4, N2 and He, with applications in natural gas upgrading, hydrogen purification, carbon capture, and industrial gas processing.
3. CO2 Capture & Low-Carbon Technologies
Development of membrane technologies for post-combustion CO2 capture, industrial carbon capture, and carbon resource utilization, with an emphasis on energy-efficient separation processes.
4. Membrane Process Simulation & Optimization
Integration of membrane materials with process simulation, cascade design, process optimization, techno-economic analysis, and life-cycle assessment, aiming to translate material-level performance into process-level benefits.
5. Membrane Engineering & Industrial Applications
Development of scalable membrane technologies and process configurations for industrial applications, including natural gas, hydrogen, cement, marine/offshore and other energy-intensive industries.
